Tekla Structures & Trimble Connect Workflow

Starting The Collaboration

Collaborating in Tekla Structures is made seamless by linking your model to a Trimble Connect project. You can either create a new project or connect to an existing one, with the flexibility to exclude or unlink models as needed.

The “Team” feature allows you to add collaborators by entering their Trimble account email and setting their permissions, including admin rights.

This integration ensures effective sharing and management of project data, making it easy for teams to access, view, and coordinate on shared models.

Getting to the Browser

Using the “For Browser” option in Tekla Structures, you can open the Trimble Connect project explorer directly in a web browser, as well as access the Tekla Structures 3D view within Trimble Connect.

The “Team” feature provides a clear overview of all users added to the Connect project, helping you manage team members and their access effectively.

This functionality streamlines project collaboration by combining model exploration and user management in one integrated workflow.

Upload the model to Connect

To upload reference models from your Tekla Structures model to a Trimble Connect project, use the “Models” button.

You’ll see the previously uploaded .tekla file in the list. You can organise files by creating new folders within the Connect project. Alternatively, export the entire Tekla model as an IFC file to Trimble Connect instead of a .tekla file.

To review your uploads, select “For Browser”, where both the reference model IFC and the Tekla Structures IFC can be viewed successfully in Trimble Connect.

Working with BCF Topics

When working with BCF topics in Trimble Connect, select the style and annotation, then enter the topic name.

Changes are updated instantly, and once a topic is completed, you can mark it as “done,” which will update its status in real-time. You can also create new BCF topics directly within Trimble Connect.

Don’t forget to refresh the BCF topics to ensure all updates are reflected. This streamlined process enhances collaboration and issue management in your projects.

Drawing Annotations from Tekla to Connect

To transfer drawing annotations from Tekla to Trimble Connect, first download the “Publish Annotations to Trimble Connect” extension from the Tekla Warehouse.

Ensure both your model and drawings are uploaded to Trimble Connect. In Tekla Structures, select the drawings in the Document Manager and double-click the extension. Once publishing is complete, click “Open Connect 3D View” to view the model in Trimble Connect.

After downloading the model, enable visibility for the drawings you want to overlay. The annotations will now appear on the model in Trimble Connect.

Centralised Collaboration

Seamless communication & collaboration among teams, regardless of location, by allowing everyone to access, share, and update project data in real time.

Cloud-Based Project Management

With secure cloud storage, all project files and data are easily accessible from anywhere, ensuring you’re always working with the most up-to-date information.

Integrated Workflows

Trimble Connect integrates with various software tools, helping streamline the entire project lifecycle—from design through construction—improving efficiency and reducing errors.
